Kambuga Archdeaconry: Nurturing Faith, Transforming Communities

Welcome to the official page of Kambuga Archdeaconry, one of the vibrant pillars of the Diocese of Kinkiizi (Church of Uganda). Situated in the heart of Kanungu District, Kambuga is a region where the historical fire of the East African Revival gracefully meets modern efforts in health, education, and community transformation.

Under the pastoral guidance of our Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreka, Kambuga Archdeaconry stands as a shining beacon of a holistic ministry—faithfully discipling the flock while aggressively combating socio-economic challenges in our communities.

Historical Heritage and Spiritual Foundations

The roots of Anglicanism in Kambuga are deeply tied to the grand sweeping movement of the East African Revival (Balokole Movement) of the mid-20th century. Early native evangelists and church teachers brought the light of the gospel across the Kigezi region, establishing strong families and localized fellowship cells that laid the groundwork for today’s structured church leadership.

The Journey to an Archdeaconry

Historically, the parishes of Kambuga evolved through the territorial developments of the Mother Church in southwestern Uganda:

  • Diocese of Kigezi (From 1967)
  • North Kigezi Diocese (From 1981)
  • Diocese of Kinkiizi (Inaugurated May 7, 1995)

With the historic launch of the Diocese of Kinkiizi under our pioneer Bishop, the late Rt. Rev. Can. John Ntegyereize, Kambuga was firmly positioned as an administrative hub. Today, it has matured into an expansive network of parishes and local sub-parish congregations, serving thousands of believers weekly.

Geography and Social Context

Kambuga Archdeaconry occupies a strategic, well-connected geographic position within the diocese. Located in the gently rolling, fertile terrain of Kinkiizi East, Kambuga enjoys an environment highly supportive of human settlement, social infrastructure, and vibrant trading spaces like Kambuga Town Council.

The community is primarily comprised of the Bakiga and Banyankole communities, whose shared cultural tapestry is deeply anchored in hard work, warm hospitality, and an enduring respect for Christian leadership and values.

Holistic Ministry: Bridging Spiritual Growth and Livelihoods

The driving vision of Kambuga Archdeaconry is to minister to the complete person: soul, mind, and body. Recognizing the contemporary economic realities of our rural and semi-urban families, the Archdeaconry actively addresses both the spiritual maturity and the physical livelihoods of the flock.

1. Spiritual Renewal and Discipleship

The archdeaconry maintains an active calendar of fellowship, including:

  • Annual parish-level and archdeaconry-wide Christian conventions.
  • Deeply committed Mothers’ Union and Fathers’ Union fellowships ensuring stable, Christ-centered homes.
  • Targeted youth and children’s ministries to ground the next generation in biblical truth and moral integrity.

2. Economic Empowerment & Agriculture

The economic lifeline of Kambuga is agriculture. The Archdeaconry promotes modern, sustainable farming methodologies to help families pull out of subsistence cycles. Our rolling hills are heavily utilized for the production of:

  • Food Crops: Bananas (Matooke), beans, groundnuts, and cassava.
  • Cash Crops: Coffee and tea production, alongside commercial tree planting.

3. Healthcare and Social Services

Kambuga plays a crucial role in supporting the health of the community. In partnership with the Diocesan Health Department and local stakeholders, the church champions community health programs, clean water access, and works hand-in-hand with foundational institutions like Kambuga General Hospital to ensure health and healing reach the most vulnerable.

Our Mission and Vision Ahead

Kambuga Archdeaconry continues to look toward the future with expectant faith and deliberate action.

  • Our Mission: To faithfully preach the transforming Gospel of Jesus Christ, build deep spiritual maturity among believers, and create sustainable developmental structures for our community.
  • Our Core Value: Accountability, transparency, and sacrificial stewardship of God’s resources for the expansion of His Kingdom.

We warmly welcome all visitors, corporate partners, and returning sons and daughters of the soil to join us in our worship services, community projects, and ministry initiatives. To God be the Glory!
