Youth & Children

Overview

Youth and children form the largest percentage of the Christian population in the Diocese of Kinkiizi. From the very inauguration of the Diocese, young people have been embraced as the roots and future of the Church. The department is currently coordinated by Re. Steven Niwabeine, whose dedication has seen youth and children actively involved in worship, leadership, and community service.

We joyfully recognize the efforts of past youth coordinators who laid strong foundations — and we especially praise Rev. Bob Mbabazi Ntegyereize, whose visionary leadership ushered in a new chapter of youth revival, creativity, and digital engagement across the Diocese through the Dream Wave Christian education curriculum in which he emerges to be the regional champion overseeing Kigezi, North Kigezi, Kinkiizi and Muhabura dioceses. a vibrant musical and digital minister to the next generation.

Children’s Ministry

Every parish and sub‑parish now hosts a vibrant Sunday School, where children are nurtured spiritually apart from adult congregations. Trained Sunday school teachers feed them with the Word of God, shaping moral uprightness and leading them to Christ’s saving grace.

Periodic trainings are held to rekindle teachers’ passion and strengthen their ministry. These efforts have made children’s churches a cornerstone of faith formation in Kinkiizi.

Youth Empowerment & Coordination

From parish to diocesan level, youth committees ensure smooth coordination of activities. The department offers advice, resources, and support to youth groups, encouraging leadership and fellowship.

Annual Parish and Archdeaconry Youth Conferences foster spiritual growth and mentorship, while two Youth Weeks each year mobilize young people for active participation in worship and service. The highlight is the Diocesan Annual Youth & Students Conference DOKAYSCO every January — a powerful 2,000+ gathering that renews faith and builds unity among youth.

Youth Comforters & School Outreach

To deepen pastoral care, Youth Comforters have been identified, trained, and commissioned by the Bishop to counsel peers and assist pastors. Scripture Unions and school‑based youth conferences remain a priority, sparking spiritual revival among students and teachers alike.

Sports Ministry

Sports have become a dynamic tool for evangelism. Football, netball, and athletics attract many youth, offering a platform for church leaders to share transformative messages. This ministry continues to shape behavior and strengthen fellowship through healthy competition and teamwork.

Boys & Girls Brigade (BGB) Band

Led by Mr. EMMANUEL KARIISA, the Boys and Girls Brigade Band is a Christian organization dedicated to bringing young people to faith in Jesus Christ. Members learn to read the Bible, grow in love for God, and build foundations for upright, self‑reliant lives.

A remarkable achievement of the local BGB is its Brass Band, which raises funds for members’ school fees by performing at special events. The Diocese deeply appreciates the support of Rev. Can. Marvin Bamforth, who donated new brass instruments — enabling the band to flourish spiritually, socially, and mentally.

Partnership Opportunities

The Youth & Children Department welcomes partnerships that can:

  • Support Sunday School training and provide teaching materials.

  • Equip sports ministry with gear and mentorship programs.
  • Strengthen school outreach through resources and chaplaincy support.
  • Expand the BGB Brass Band with instruments and training.

The Diocese of Kinkiizi celebrates its youth and children as vessels of hope and renewal. Through faith, service, and creativity, they continue to shape the Church’s future — guided by leaders whose legacy of empowerment still echoes across the hills of Kinkiizi.
