Our Archdeaconries

The Diocese of Kinkiizi operates through 11 administrative units known as Archdeaconries (and the Cathedral Deanery). Led by Archdeacons under the oversight of the Diocesan Bishop, these units act as the strategic link between the Diocesan Secretariat and local parishes.

They provide grassroots oversight, coordinate community development, and drive the expansion of Christ’s Kingdom across Kanungu District and surrounding regions.

1. St. Peter’s Cathedral Deanery (Nyakatare)

  • What They Exactly Do: As the seat of the Diocese, the Cathedral Deanery handles dual responsibilities: it coordinates mother-church liturgical standards for the entire diocese while shepherding its own urban and suburban local congregations under the leadership of the Sub-Dean.
  • Strengths: Serves as the administrative, theological, and institutional hub. It hosts the diocesan secretariat, key administrative offices, and high-profile diocesan events.
  • Potentials: Exceptional positioning for hosting large-scale conferences, digital ministry expansion, and pilot project implementations for diocesan-wide socio-economic initiatives.

2. All Saints Kanungu Archdeaconry

  • What They Exactly Do: Supervises ministry within Kanungu Town Council and neighboring rural areas, managing rapid church growth and balancing urban-rural administrative needs.
  • Strengths: Boasts a large, vibrant population of over 13,000 Christians with strong urban representation. Located in the district’s commercial and political heart, it benefits from a highly engaged and resourceful laity.
  • Potentials: Immense opportunities for urban youth outreach, commercial real estate development, and agribusiness partnerships centered around the local coffee and tea trades.
  • Evangelical Contribution: Leads the charge in marketplace evangelism, dynamic youth ministries, and impactful Christian stewardship programs that resource broader diocesan missions.

3. Kayonza Archdeaconry

  • What They Exactly Do: Manages spiritual care and community mobilization in areas heavily tied to tea plantation economies and ecotourism boundaries.
  • Strengths: Geographically blessed with lush tea estates and close proximity to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, fostering an environment of strong community resilience.
  • Potentials: Ecotourism ministries, institutional partnerships for community health empowerment, and large-scale agricultural projects capitalizing on favorable microclimates.

4. Kanyantorogo Archdeaconry

  • Strengths: Rich agricultural land with high food production capacity and an intensely loyal, unified community of Christian believers.
  • Potentials: Expansion of church-founded primary and secondary schools, and standardizing model farms to promote food security and household income generation.
  • Evangelical Contribution: Acts as a champion for rural evangelism, training passionate lay leaders who sustain vibrant fellowships in sub-parishes far from urban centers.

5. Kihiihi Archdeaconry

  • What They Exactly Do: Coordinates ministry in a rapidly expanding, strategic trading hub near the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border and Queen Elizabeth National Park.
  • Strengths: High cross-border commerce, multicultural population, and a bustling urban economy that attracts vibrant youth demographics.
  • Potentials: Excellent potential for cross-border radio/digital evangelism, transport-sector ministries (boda-boda and taxi fellowships), and establishing hospitality projects.
  • Evangelical Contribution: Serves as a critical gateway for missionary outreach, urban cell fellowships, and managing cross-border evangelical exchanges.

6. Nyamirama Archdeaconry

  • What They Exactly Do: Drives holistic ministry by combining robust local preaching with dedicated community transformation and household development projects.
  • Strengths: Strong community ownership of church projects, home to successful community development initiatives (like the Nyamirama Community Development Project), and active Mother’s Union groups.
  • Potentials: Scaling up vocational training centers, expanding clean water and health advocacy initiatives, and improving regional educational standards.
  • Evangelical Contribution: Deeply demonstrates a holistic Gospel where social action, healthcare, and primary evangelism go hand-in-hand to transform lives.

7. Nyamiyaga Archdeaconry

8. Kambuga Archdeaconry

  • What They Exactly Do: Manages a highly intellectual, health-focused, and academically vibrant territory, coordinating with major regional health and educational institutions.
  • Strengths: Home to critical institutions like the Kambuga Hospital and higher learning annexes, giving it a high concentration of professionals and students.
  • Potentials: Medical ministries, institutional chaplaincies, and professional-led community mentorship networks that merge faith with science and career growth.
  • Evangelical Contribution: Pioneers institutional evangelism, capturing the hearts of young professionals, medical workers, and students, and shaping them into Christian leaders.

9. Nyakinoni Archdeaconry

10. Rutenga Archdeaconry

11. Rugyeyo Archdeaconry

  • Potentials: Establishing music and creative arts ministries to engage youth, and expanding church land utilization for commercial forestry and agriculture.
